What We Do
The Society
Penn & Tylers Green Residents Society (P&TGRS) coordinates and represents views and concerns of residents and other village groups on community matters and is recognised by the the Buckinghamshire Council for all major development planning proposals and applications. The Society is represented on the local Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG) which works with the police to identify policing priorities.
P&TGRS owns and manages Common Wood, Millar Wood and Coppice Farm Road greens, as well as the Village Pre-School (VPS). We also publish Village Voice (VV) magazine 6 times a year.
Village Voice
Village Voice (VV) is produced 6 times a year and delivered to all houses in Penn & Tylers Green, free of charge.
Village Voice includes news and information about what’s going on in and around Penn & Tylers Green, as well as reporting on matters which may have an impact on residents in Penn & Tylers Green
It’s production values are ‘by the village, for the village, of the village’ and as such it features regular contributions by the numerous clubs and societies, churches and schools in the villages.
It also features articles on the villages, local history, open spaces/woodlands and future events.
Woods and Open Spaces
Common Wood was purchased by the Penn & Tylers Green Residents Society in 2003 following an extensive public campaign and the support of The Woodland Trust, the Chiltern Society and the Lottery Heritage Fund. Through a leaseback arrangement with The Woodland Trust in 2009 the Society has been able to safeguard the wood for the benefit of the local community, secured for the future as a public woodland. It is committed to providing open access to all, and has set about an extensive management programme of both the natural habitat and the paths and access points throughout the wood. The Society works closely with and is represented on the Chiltern Woodland Project.
P&TGRS also owns and manages Millar Wood (west side of Elm Road facing Yonder Lodge) which was donated by Sir Oliver Millar’s estate in 2007.
The village greens at Coppice Farm Road junction with Hazlemere Road were acquired by P&TGRS to protect them from potential development, maintain them for public access and as ‘lungs’ for the village. In 2022 we planted 5 trees which form part of the Queen’s Jubilee Canopy and were sponsored by local residents.
Village Pre-school
The Residents Society owns and manages the Village Pre-School on a “not-for-profit” basis. The school is open every day in term time and meets at the Methodist Church in Coppice Farm Road.
Our aim is to encourage the development of happy, confident children from 2 to 5 years who learn all the time through a mixture of creative and structured play and exciting activities.
