Who Are We?

The Friends of Common Wood are the P&TGRS charity’s official membership group of supporters, with their own special mission and powers to conserve Common Wood in perpetuity.

What are our aims?

protect and enhance this precious woodland haven
keep it safe for threatened wildlife
tackle the effects of climate change

so people can enjoy it for generations to come.

We are committed to conserving the wood forever and

To keep Common Wood as a well-managed conservation woodland under community control
To build the long-term financial strength and stability needed to continue as the permanent guardians of the wood
To encourage the public to join in woodland conservation activities and other volunteering events
To protect the environment, enhance its biodiversity and contribute to the fight against climate change

Why is our mission so important?

Common Wood is an ancient woodland … full of natural diversity

At over 250 acres, Common Wood is one of 70 Ancient Woodlands dedicated to the Queen’s Green Canopy in 2022
Together with the neighbouring Penn Wood, it is one of the largest areas of Ancient Woodland remaining in the Chilterns
Common Wood contains a rich variety of wildlife – more than 330 species of flora and fauna have been recorded
Did you know that one acre of well-managed mature woodland can capture up to an average of four tons of carbon dioxide annually.
This means the 250 acre Common Wood could absorb up to 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide every year – the equivalent of keeping more than 250 cars off UK roads.

We need your help, join today!

P&TGRS is a non-profit making charitable company. Every penny you give us will be used exclusively to help meet the costs of protecting our woodlands; Common Wood, Millar Wood on Elm Road, Penn and the Coppice Farm Road Greens.

Help us to protect the wood and its wildlife:

- - Common Wood needs constant management attention and vigilance
  - Which costs money
  - Government funding is scarce, so we need your support to become self-sufficient
    
    You can become a Friend of Common Wood member in two ways
  - Annual member – by paying at least £5 monthly or £50 a year
  - Lifetime member – by making a single donation of £500 or more

Gift Membership

For a thoughtful present, you can make a donation to P&TGRS on behalf of someone else (but you can’t sign them up as a member!)

If the recipient would like to then register as a member of Friends of Common Wood, they can ask us to convert the donation to membership of FOCW by writing to us at companysecretary.ptgrs@gmail.com.

Please don’t select the Gift Aid option, as HMRC say that Gift Aid can’t be claimed on something that you are buying for someone else

Print a certificate so that you have something to hand over to the lucky recipient but don’t forget to get them to write to us.
