Penn and Tylers Green commemorated the centenary of the end of the First World War with a special Battle’s Over beacon-lighting ceremony on Tylers Green Common. This short video summarises the event.
The Battle’s Over ceremony, which began at 6.45pm on Sunday 11 November, was part of the nationwide commemorative event taking part at over 1,000 locations throughout the country at the same time. A beacon was lit at 7pm symbolising an end to the darkness of war and a return to the light of peace.
Fifty-eight crosses bearing the names of men associated with Penn and Tylers Green who died in the war were installed on the common over the Remembrance weekend.
